CONVALESCENCE

Mrs R. Widow of Leading Railman. Age 83. She has various disabilities which are helped with the use of a scooter. Her daughter arranged a 2 week stay at an RAF Convalescent Centre. We assisted with a grant of £400 to help with the shortfall in fees which were not covered by the RAFBF.

GOLF TOURNAMENT - 30 May 2008
On 30th May, there is to be a Golf Tournament at Hendon Golf Club where teams will be competing for the RBF Challenge Trophy. There will also be an evening dinner with prize giving and fund raising.
 
SPECIAL STEAM TRIP - 10 August 2008
In August, a steam trip to mark the end of steam on British Railways (40 years ago) which coincides with our own 150th. It is planned to run a special train from London to West Yorkshire where a steam loco will be attached to haul the train from Settle to Carlisle. The "steam" return to Yorkshire will be via Carnforth before the final leg back to London hauled by diesel. There will be entertainment and fund raising events during this unique trip.
 
SCOTTISH RAILWAY DINNER - 2008 - 22 August 2008
On Friday, 22nd August the Glasgow Science Centre will hold our second fundraising dinner. Building on the highly successful inaugural dinner held in November 2007, this prestigious event attracted a lot of interest, raising nearly £14,000. Come along and help us smash last years target!
 
FAMILY OPEN DAY - LLANGOLLEN - 20 September 2008
In September, it is planned to hold a family open day at the Llangollen Railway with a number of engines in STEAM, to appeal to the train driver in all, young or old with plenty of opportunity for rides and picnics at this beautiful location.
 
150th Anniversary Dinner - 15 October 2008
On Wednesday, 15 October at "the Brewery" Chiswell Street, London we will be having this special anniversary event. The plan is to draw inspiration and ideas from our early fund raising dinners of the 19th Century with glamourous guests,good food, quality entertainment and fund-raising fun. This is a blacktie event and will be the cornerstone of our celebrations.
