In 2006 we provided financial help to some 676 people to meet specific needs
such as scooters and other mobility aids for the disabled, minor house repairs, funeral expenses and on-going payments
such as annuities and residential care grants where a continuing need has been identified. In addition 61 grants were
made for the benefit of 102 children whose parents found themselves in financial difficulty. This committed the RBF to
nearly £500,000 but, despite our efforts to increaseour income during the year, the costs of our charitable
giving along with the costs of running the charity exceeded our income by almost £257,000.
Our long-term
objective is to increase and sustain our annual income by £500,00 over the next five years which will allow us
to DOUBLE our charitable giving but at with no increase in our administrative costs. To do
this we need to enlarge the organisations who currently operate our Railways, donations and contributions from
individuals and other organised fundrasing events at local and Area level.
One of the more successful
fundraising enterprises has been selling RAILWAY MEMORABELIA on eBay. To date approximately £4,000 has been
raised by Mr. Harold Wainwright, a member of our Midland Area Committee, but for this to continue, we need
more memorabelia to sell. If anyone has anything that we can offer for sale on eBay then Harold would welcome
details sent to him via e-mail -
