Presenting Paul with his Heart of Gold Award
On Tuesday 8th January, we presented Southeastern employee Paul Scott with a Heart of Gold Award, along with award sponsors Railpen.
Paul, a Victoria-based Train Driver Instructor, was nominated for the Rising Star category of the awards because of his amazing enthusiasm for bringing colleagues together through activities and sport. Following the loss of a number of rail industry colleagues to suicide, Paul was determined to turn the tide, relentlessly pushing for greater awareness of mental health challenges, whilst raising money for charity.
He organised an epic 19-mile run from his station all the way to Orpington, personally checking in with colleagues at each station on the way - and went on to establish the company’s official football team, Southeastern Railway FC, working tirelessly to put together a squad and raise awareness across the region. Now well into its maiden season, the team continues to go from strength to strength, with Paul championing the power of sport to bring people together every step of the way.
Paul said: “I was blown away to receive a nomination for the Heart of Gold award but to win was such a good feeling. Thank you to everyone that voted once again. It was great to meet some of the team from the RBF and to be presented with my award. My challenges and fundraising will continue into this year and I will be supporting the RBF in their attempt to raise £50k during their Railway Family Week.”
