This September, the Railway Benefit Fund will hold our first ever Ambassador Month. Throughout September we will be celebrating and raising awareness of the incredible work that our RBF Ambassadors do for us. Here's how you can get involved:
Tim and Craig
Tim and Craig are a father and son working at Merseyrail who both recently signed up to become RBF Ambassadors. Craig said:
“We heard about the scheme from a current RBF Ambassador Ronnie, and with us both being RMT reps, it was a no brainer for the two of us to become Ambassadors. We both can’t wait to get stuck into the role and continue to support our railway family.”
Kevin and Maria
Kevin and Maria both work for Southeastern and recently became RBF Ambassadors. As a couple they were responsible for creating The Railway Family group on Facebook- the group membership now stands at an amazing 15,000+ members.
Kevin and Maria said "Having been on the railway for almost 40 years between us and working with some incredibly kind and caring people we feel that the RBF is the ideal charity for rail staff to support.
The RBF have given some incredible support especially since lockdown, helping families with computers, printers as well as supporting individual Railway Family who were suffering financial difficulties due to Covid restrictions.
For these very reasons and to do our bit to help others within our railway family we became Ambassadors to show our support not just for the RBF but also for each and every member of rail staff, past or present.
Thanks RBF for all you do, keep up the fab job."
Ronnie and Gaynor
On Tuesday 22nd June, the fundraising team at RBF joined Ambassadors Ronnie and Gaynor for a ‘Cake Day’ at Merseyrail. Since lockdown, Gaynor has been baking cakes every week and sharing them with her colleagues at Merseyrail. The staff loved her cakes so much that Gaynor decided to sell them to raise money for the RBF.
We joined Gaynor to help her sell her famous cakes at several locations. We visited Rail House, Liverpool Central, and Southport and Ormskirk stations to sell her delicious treats. There was also a raffle to win an entire cake baked by Gaynor.
The day was a great success, and we managed to raise a total of £300, as well as speak to many Merseyrail employees about the RBF.
On 16th September our Ambassador Kim held a bake sale at Network Rail offices in Birmingham to raise money for RBF. Thank you to Kim for organising and to May for baking the delicious treats- they sold over 30 cakes!
Donna who works for ScotRail in Stirling recently signed up to become an RBF Ambassador. Donna said:
“I have signed up as an Ambassador as I want to help and support my railway colleagues, especially in our current difficult social climate. A little kindness goes a long way and we never know when we may ourselves have to reach out for help. It is a privilege to have this opportunity to act as an Ambassador.”
