Million Step Team Challenge Raises Over £12,000 for Railway Family

Railway Benefit Fund (RBF) has wrapped up its annual Million Step Team Challenge for 2026, with the month-long event raising more than £12,000 to support railway workers facing challenging times.

Participants across the UK rail industry collectively logged an impressive 45 million steps during the competition. Team Amaro claimed overall victory, while Railpen was recognised for logging the highest cumulative step count.

The event was run in partnership with the Big Team Challenge platform and carried an environmental dimension, with 11 trees planted as part of the initiative.

Teams from across the rail sector took part, including Amaro, Arbil Lifting, Avanti West Coast, c2c Railway Limited, Freightliner Ltd, Ganymede, Heavy Haul Rail Limited, Ontrak UK Ltd, Porterbrook, Railpen, RSSB, VTG Rail, and Winder Phillips Associates, alongside the RBF itself.

The charity paid tribute to the industry’s collective effort following the event. “To everyone who took part and raised money for us, thank you,” it said. “You didn’t have to, but you did, and it means everything to the Railway Family. This is about real things, for real people, with real impact.”

Donations remain open via the campaign’s official page. https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/rbf-team-challenge-2026

The RBF has confirmed the challenge will return in May 2027, with an open invitation for further teams across the sector to get involved.
